Florero ~ Fine Art Print

$36.00

Florero is a painting I started while sitting at my kitchen table, when I lived on the coast of Oaxaca, in a little village known as Mazunte. I was living with two spanish speaking woman, one a friend, and one a stranger, and we would drink cafe con leche every morning, and sit and stare at the big beautiful mango trees lining the front yard. All throughout Mexico, you will find tons of house plants in a variety of pots, containers, plastic jugs, anything that can be converted into a plant pot, you will see it. I often found if I was staying or living with an abuela that she would have the most plants out of all of the places I would stay. I saw that the abuelas loved to tend to their gardens, their kitchen, and the children and grandchildren they watch over. Florero is an ode to the abuelas, the flowers, the plants, the Mexican and Guatemalan kitchens and houses and shacks that I slept in and lived in and created in. Something about those house plants have a special kind of magick. I wanted the house plants to represent a special kind of psychic energy, imparted with abuela wisdom and secrets only spoken in spanish if you whispered to them.
